Kinesio taping for horses is a gentle treatment method that uses elastic tape – called kinesio tape – on the horse’s body to support muscles, joints and connective tissue, without restricting movement. The method originates from the world of human sports and has been adapted to the anatomy of the horse. Today, it is used as an effective supplement to other treatments such as equine massage, equine physiotherapy, equine osteopathy and acupressure.
Kinesiotape is used to stimulate the body’s own healing process and support the horse’s musculoskeletal system. When applied to the skin with a specific tension and pattern, the tape gently lifts the skin and improves blood and lymph circulation. This can help reduce swelling and tension, reduce pain and increase awareness of body movement (proprioception). The tape therefore works both physically and neurologically by sending signals to the nervous system through the skin.
The treatment is non-invasive, painless and very gentle on the horse. The tape can be left in place for several days and adapts to the horse’s movements. It can be easily combined with other forms of treatment and is used for both horses in hard training and those in rehabilitation. Many find that kinesiotape gives the horse greater freedom of movement, improved comfort and increased relaxation.
At MySir, we use a wide range of treatments to ensure your horse receives the most optimal and targeted treatment. Kinesio taping is just one of our effective tools. In addition, we also use methods such as equine physiotherapy, equine osteopathy, acupressure and equine massage – just to name a few of the most commonly used techniques.
The different treatments are combined and individually adapted based on your horse’s specific needs and challenges, so that we achieve the best results for both well-being and performance.
