The Danish Equine Academy

Course description

You can become a Certified Equine Physiotherapist.

It is possible to take additional courses or education offered by the The Danish Equine Academy either subsequently or simultaneously, depending on your interest and needs.

The education costs DKK 115.200 and takes approximately 3 years.

Payment is made module by module. An invoice will be sent approximately 14 days before the start of each module.

The Certified Equine Physiotherapist program consists of 12 modules. You can read about the content below.

Module 1 - Introduction to Equine Physiotherapy and Massage:

  • Fundamentals of equine physiotherapy and massage.
  • Basics of equine anatomy and physiology.
  • Understanding the horse’s skeleton and reference points.

Module 2 - Gait Analysis and Massage Techniques:

  • Gait analysis and exterior analysis.
  • Various massage techniques.
  • Theory of muscles and their function.
  • Exploration of fascia and nerves.
  • In-depth insights into equine anatomy and biomechanics.

Module 3 - Sports Massage and Core Stability:

  • In this module, you will learn how to use a specific massage technique to prevent injuries and assist the horse if an injury has occurred.
  • You will be able to apply this massage technique to help the horse perform at its best.
  • You will be able to analyze where the horse is tender, injured, or experiencing issues in specific muscles and subsequently provide relief.
  • Introduction to the horse and rider’s core stability and training in this area will be covered.
  • Practical exercises are included as part of the course.

Module 4 - Organs, Fascia, and Nervous System:

  • Exploration of internal organs, fascia, and the nervous system.
  • Advanced examination and treatment techniques.
  • In-depth anatomical insights, especially the horse’s shoulder, front- and hindlegs.
  • Emphasis on rehabilitating injured horses.

Module 5 - Advanced Organs, Fascia, and Nervous System:

  • Continuation of the exploration of organs, fascia, and the nervous system.
  • Deepening the understanding of examination and treatment.
  • Detailed anatomy of the horse’s shoulder, front- and hindlegs.
  • Expertise in physiotherapeutic examination and treatment for rehabilitating injured horses.

Module 6 - Advanced Fascia, Anatomy, and Rehabilitation:

  • In-depth exploration of fascia, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Specific focus on the horse’s shoulder, front, and hindparts.
  • Advanced techniques for rehabilitating injured horses.
  • Preparation for the mid-term exam.

Module 6A - Midterm Exam:

  • Evaluation of your understanding of course material.

Module 7 - Head, Neck, Back, and Pelvis:

  • Expertise in the horse’s head, neck, back, and pelvis.
  • Relevant anatomy and physiotherapeutic examination.
  • Focus on rehabilitating injured horses.

Module 8 - Further Organs, Fascia, and Nervous System:

  • Advanced insights into organs, fascia, and the nervous system.
  • Extended knowledge of anatomy of the horse’s head, neck, back, and pelvis.
  • Continued learning of physiotherapeutic examination and treatment.
  • Introduction of therapeutic aids like laser therapy and advanced massage techniques.

Module 9 - Sternum, Ribs, and Diaphragm:

  • Understanding the horse’s sternum, ribs, and diaphragm.
  • Expertise in rehabilitation techniques.
  • Learning about therapeutic aids like laser therapy and advanced massage therapy.

Module 10 - Rehabilitation Training and Injury Prevention:

  • Creating individualized rehabilitation plans for injured horses.
  • Designing exercise regimens.
  • Gathering crucial patient history.
  • Developing injury prevention strategies.

Module 11 - Summary and Recap:

  • Consolidation and review of content from Modules 1-10. 

Module 12 - Final Exam:

  • Comprehensive assessment covering all course material.
  • There will be an oral, written, and practical examination with an external examiner present.
  • Grading will be based on a 7-point scale.
